Exciting Activities in the Summer - Kohei Miyazaki from Japan

Hello. This is Kohei. Today, I am going to introduce things to do around Murray in summer. If you like outdoors, you will love what they have here. Murray and nearby cities are small towns, but they have many wonderful things that you cannot do in a big city!

Canoeing
Canoeing is probably my most favorite thing to do during summer. There are many rivers you can go canoeing around here. My friends and I usually go to Buffalo River.  There are some companies around the river that rent out canoes and it costs $20~$30 per person depending on how long you want to canoe. We usually go on Saturday morning, canoe half a day, camp on the river side at night, go canoeing for the rest of the course next day and come back on Sunday afternoon. Around the river, there are a cave you can go inside and a couple of rocks you can jump off of. It is not just canoeing, but there are many other cool stuff to do.

Camping
This is also one of my favorite things to do during summer. There are several camping places around Murray. I usually go to the one near by the Kentucky Lake. The best part of camping around the lake is that you can see the sky full of starts at night. If you bring a grill set, you can do BBQ with your friends and maybe have a couple of beers while looking at all the stars at the sky. This is definitely one of the best ways to enjoy summer with your friends.

Waterpark
We don't have a beach, but we do have waterparks! There are a couple of them around here. It is super fun to go to a waterpark with your friends when it is hot outside. Some of the waterparks have fireworks shooting off on their sites in summer. It is not every week, but if you have a good luck, you can see them while swimming in a pool!

Other than what I listed here, there are many other things you can do here such as going to a shopping mall, fishing and hiking. If you are from a big city, I highly recommend you to go see the beauty of nature. I am sure you can have a lot of great experiences here that you could not have in your hometown.

Where I Study at Murray State University - Kohei Miyazaki from Japan

Hello, everyone! Today, I am going to talk a little bit about where to study on Murray State’s campus. There are many places you can go to study on campus. If you like studying at a quiet space, our two libraries may be your best choice. If you like studying outside when the weather is nice, we have tables outside the library that you can use to study.

We have two libraries on Murray State’s campus, Waterfield library and Pogue library. Waterfield library is our main library. There are computers, printers and scanners that any MSU student can use at Waterfield library. On the third floor is a quiet space. I like studying in a quiet space, so I usually go here and study.
Pogue library is our second library. There are study tables on the first floor. There are usually not many students at Pogue library, compared to the Waterfield library, and it is very quiet. If you want to talk to your friends while studying, there is a room on the second floor where you can talk and study. This library is beautiful both inside and outside.

Study Lounges in each building
Depending on your major, you would have your own building where you would take most of your classes. For example, my major is economics and my minor is mathematics, so all of my classes are offered in either the Business Building or Faculty Hall.
Many of the buildings have study places somewhere in them and these places are often pretty nice to study. I really recommend you to explore your building. I go to the business building to study when the library is crowded, especially on exam weeks.

Hart Hall Lab
The Hart Hall Computer Lab is open to all MSU students. It is located on the first floor of the Hart Hall. There are computers, printers and a small study place. I really like this place because it is usually very quiet, and they have a cafeteria right next to the lab. So you can study at the lab and if you want to take a break, you can go to the cafeteria and have some coffee.

Honors Day Ceremony - Kohei Miyazaki from Japan

Hello. My name is Kohei. I am a senior student at Murray State. I am studying economics and mathematics. Today, I am going to talk about the 2016 Honors Day ceremony, which I attended as a recipient of Outstanding Senior in Economics Award 2016.

The Honors Day ceremony acknowledges outstanding undergraduate students’ performance as scholars and each of the students were given stage recognition. Recognition is based upon academic achievement and leadership in departmental and university affairs. I was selected to be a recipient of this award by the economics department and received the award from Dr. David Eaton, the department chair, at the ceremony. Each academic department may honor one up to three students. This is a very honorable award that I will proudly be able to tell my future employers about.

I think that this is an excellent opportunity for students who have done hard work to be recognized. This was my first time at college to be awarded on stage and I was very honored to receive the award. This opportunity is open to both U.S. students and international students, so anyone, regardless of where you are from, has a chance to be selected as an honoree. If your family is back in your home country, to be recognized at the Honors Day ceremony is a great way to show them your hard work at Murray State!

Students are Arriving in our Great USA University!

Classes start tomorrow at Murray State University, and everyone at this great USA university is very excited for everything to begin. Last week, students came in from all over the world and staff and other students met them in front of their new residence halls to greet them.

Now, everyone is making lots of new friends and meeting with advisers to decide which classes they want to take at Murray State. It's fun to be in a USA University town, especially one like Murray--USA Today named Murray the "Friendliest town in America!"

Murray State University: a Great Place for International Students!

Murray State University: a Great Place for International Students!

Murray State University is excited to welcome some of its new international students next week during orientation! Murray State is a great place for international students. It has a population of about 11,000 students from the USA and all around the world, both undergraduate and graduate. It offers an excellent education at a price that students can afford: $15,000 USD for undergraduates and $17,000 USD for graduate students.

Murray State University also has several clubs and events that allow international students to share their culture with friends and peers, while learning about other cultures. Each student, faculty member and staff member is assigned to a residence hall, which helps students form teams, develop relationships and network with others.

International students have many opportunities while at Murray State University, and I encourage all international students interested in studying in the USA to apply to Murray State University. The school offers direct admission and conditional admission. It also has an ESL program that allows students with low English test scores to come to the USA to continue learning English. Please email us at msu.intl@murraystate.edu if you have any questions, or would like help beginning an application!
